Air conditioning units do not fail overnight. Almost always, this is preceded by months of operation with a clogged filter, reduced refrigerant charge or a blocked evaporator: no one notices because it continues to cool. Only in the hottest week of the year does performance drop below the threshold where it becomes problematic, and servicing is then sought from a waiting list.
What regular servicing includes
- Cleaning or replacement of filters and inspection of the evaporator
- pressure measurement and refrigerant quantity check
- leak tightness check of the circuit and condensate drainage inspection
- Cleaning of the outdoor unit and inspection of mounting.
- measurement of electrical values and control check
- evaporator disinfection when the unit is clogged
How often
For a standard office, once a year is sufficient, ideally in spring before the season. Where units run year-round, server rooms, operations with thermal loads, restaurants, twice a year makes sense. Operational load and dustiness of the environment matter more than the age of the unit.
Service and inspection are not the same thing. Service is maintenance you order for functionality and consumption. Leak tightness inspection is a legal obligation for operators of equipment containing certain amounts of refrigerant and is governed by the EU regulation on F-gases. One does not replace the other, but both can be combined into a single visit - We provide more detailed information on inspections separately..
What affects the price
No serious provider will give you a price over the phone because the range is too wide. In reality, it depends on:
- number and type of units - a wall-mounted split unit is different work from a cassette in a suspended ceiling or a multi-split system with five indoor units
- accessibility - a unit above the staircase or on the façade in a heritage zone requires a platform or an industrial climber.
- condition on first visit - a neglected unit after years without maintenance requires more than a routine inspection
- refrigerant top-up - if the circuit is losing refrigerant, the cause must be addressed first, not just topping up.
That is why we carry out a site survey: we assess your current setup and then provide a fixed price.
When air conditioning stops cooling
The most common causes are usually mundane: a clogged filter, blocked condensate drain, frozen evaporator due to refrigerant shortage, or simply a dead battery in the remote control. Before calling, try cleaning the filters and leaving the unit switched off for an hour. If that doesn't help, get in touch; for business premises in Prague 1 we aim to arrive on the same day or the next.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my air conditioning needs servicing?
It cools less effectively than before, takes longer to reach the set temperature, is noisier than before, leaks or emits an odour. The odour is almost always caused by a clogged evaporator.
Can we clean the filters ourselves?
Yes, and it is a good idea, for dusty operations, even once a month. However, this does not replace inspection of the cooling circuit and electrical systems, which require instruments and authorisation.
Do you also service units that you did not install?
Yes, routinely. During the first visit we will inspect the condition and advise whether it is still worthwhile to maintain the unit or if it is nearing the end of its service life.
How quickly will you arrive if your air conditioning stops working in the middle of summer?
During the hottest weeks, there are queues everywhere. We try to accommodate business clients on the same or following day, but we will not promise a specific time in advance.
Do you issue a certificate of service performed?
Yes. For equipment subject to mandatory registration, we will also record the action in the equipment's logbook.
